GEORGE TOWN: In just three hours, hundreds of packets of breakfast fare sold by OK Boss Food Stall were snapped up since word spread on social media that the items are being sold at only RM1.
“Tarzan”, whose real name is Lim Chin Aun, 29, said his stall, which is operated from a family home in Lorong Sungai Dua here, started on July 8, and business was already picking up fast.
“Today, we opened for business at 6am, and by 9am, all the items were sold out.
“I’m really happy that this concept has been well received,” he said at the stall yesterday.
“Currently, we are selling 300 packets of nasi lemak classic, 150 packets of nasi lemak kimchi, 200 packets of fried tomyam bihun, and 200 sardine and egg mayo sandwiches daily, all at RM1 each.”
The stall also sells a set of egg and toast, jelly as desserts and drinks like Milo, coffee and soft drinks at the same price.
Chin Aun, who also owns a dance studio and works as a car salesman, said he and his accountant brother Chin Khang, 26, came up with the idea several months ago.
“The economy is bad now and food prices are increasing. We want to go against that trend and show that you can provide delicious food at an affordable price.
“It is also our way of helping students and those leaving for work in the early morning to fill their tummies with good and affordable breakfast.
“My brother and I wake up as early as 2.30am to prepare the food but I’m happy and satisfied when I see the good response. It’s worth the sacrifice,” he said.
Chin Aun said he took turns with Chin Khang to operate the stall as both have full-time jobs while their semi-retired father, Ewe Huat, 59, helped out whenever he could.
“We hope to expand the menu and have more types of food for our customers.
“We also have people buying in bulks as the food we’re selling comes in small packets that are easy to be distributed,” he said.
He added that they also took pre-orders from customers.
Universiti Sains Malaysia graduate Jackson Yew said the food sold at RM1 reminded him of his childhood days when his school canteen food was sold at that price.
OK Boss Food Stall opens daily from 6am to 2pm.
