Drug suspect found hanged in Sungei Siput police station

IPOH: A 39-year-old drug suspect was found hanged from a police t-shirt inside the Sungai Siput police station lock-up, about 35km from here.

Perak deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Hasnan Hassan said the man, a widower, was alone in his cell when he was found by a policeman doing his rounds at about 12.10pm on Wednesday.

"A medical officer from the Sungai Siput Hospital confirmed the man's death," DCP Hasnan said adding that a coroner from the Sungei Siput magistrate's court has conducted an inquiry.

"The cause of death has been identified as neck compression due to hanging. No other injuries were found," he said, adding that the deceased was from Sungai Siput.

DCP Hasnan said the man was arrested on May 2 under Section 3 (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

"He was being investigated by the National Anti-Drug Agency and was to be remanded from May 3 to 16.

"He has four previous records involving drugs," he said, adding that the incident has been classified as sudden death.
