ALOR SETAR: A fisherman suffered serious facial injuries when the handphone he was charging exploded while he was about to answer a call.
In the 4am incident at Kampung Titi Serong in Yan yesterday, Muhammad Syawal Md Isa, 28, suffered burns on the left side of his face, ear, chest and hand.
He was rushed to Yan Hospital but was later transferred to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital in Sungai Petani for further treatment.
State Health Department Director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail confirmed the incident, which had since gone viral on social media.
“His condition is stable,” said Dr Norhizan. “The left side of his face and ear were burnt.
“He will be referred to Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor for further examination by specialists,” he added.
Muhammad Syawal said he began to charge his phone at midnight.
“The phone was quite hot when I tried to answer the call,” he said from his hospital bed. “It then exploded, and I was knocked unconscious.”
