Charging handphone explodes injuring man in Sungei Petani

SUNGEI PETANI:  A man sustained injuries to his face when the handphone he was charging exploded while he was about to answer a call.

Muhammad Syawal Md Isa, 28, of Kampung Titi Serong was rushed to the hospital after the 4am incident at his home.

State Health Department director Datuk Dr Norhizan Ismail confirmed the incident which had gone viral on social media.

"On Saturday (April 23) at about 4.40am, a 28-year-old man was brought by his relatives to seek treatment at the emergency unit of Yan Hospital.

"From what had been briefed by Yan Hospital, the handphone of the man which was charging rang.

"He wanted to answer the call and while removing the handphone from the charger, the handphone suddenly exploded.

"He sustained injuries at the right side of his face, right ear, right of his chest and his right hand," Dr Norhizan said in a statement.

He said the man was sent to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for treatment by specialists and was warded at the ophthalmology ward.

"Ophthalmologists found injuries to his right ear and burns to the surface of his skin.

"It is planned that he will later be referred to Sungai Buloh Hospital in Selangor to carry out further examinations," Dr Norhizan said.

The incident comes after a policeman's wife was electrocuted to death while she was talking on her phone which was charging in Taman Desa Baiduri, Cheras last week.
