Forest Gan still missing after four months

PETALING JAYA: Experienced mountaineer and botanist Gan Cheng Lim, 70, better know as Forest Gan, is still missing four months after he took off on a trip to Cameron Highlands to conduct research.

Gan's family lodged a police report on Jan 15 at the Sentul station when he failed to return after leaving on a solo research trip on Jan 1.

Since then, the search party has been scouring places like Tapah, Cameron Highlands and Ipoh in an effort to find Gan, but to no avail.

The last call from Gan’s mobile phone was at 2pm on Jan 5. The details of the call have been communicated to the police.

It was reported that the search for Gan at Gunung Ruil, Pahang, was called off in late January after authorities failed to find any leads that he was at the mountain.

Months later, Gan’s "students" are holding on to hope that their mentor can still be found.

They have turned to the media for assistance in the search and rescue mission.

In a press statement on Wednesday, the students said they are relying on the media to disseminate information to the public so as to assist them in finding him.

“The more people know about Forest Gan, the more chances we have of finding him. That is what we believe now,” they said.
