SUNNYLANDS: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has arrived in Sunnylands, southern California for the United States-Asean Summit hosted by President Barack Obama.

The two-day summit beginning Tuesday (Monday in the US) will also be attended by other Asean leaders.

Najib in a statement issued on Sunday said the summit was a significant meeting after the elevation of the dialogue relations to a strategic partnership in November last year in Kuala Lumpur.

"It clearly represents a recognition by the US on the diplomatic, economic and strategic importance of Asean."

The summit will provide leaders with the opportunity to reaffirm their commitment to the principles underlying the strategic partnership and to provide guidance on the way forward.
