KUANTAN: Tengku Puan of Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah has expressed relief that the Government had imposed a three-month moratorium on bauxite activities.
Through her Instagram site Thursday, Tunku Azizah, however, questioned why the stop order was only for three months.
"Alhamdulillah ... but 3 months only," she said in her posting, and expressing shock at the pictures around the bauxite mining sites published by local dailies.
Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar announced that the moratorium would be effective from Jan 15.
The Government had also frozen the approval for bauxite export for miners.
Tunku Azizah had earlier expressed regret for the pollution caused by bauxite mining and wanted the people to continue their struggle to stop the activities. - Bernama
