Taxi driver stabbed to death in Kota Baru

KOTA BARU: An elderly taxi driver was stabbed to death in broad daylight by a suspect on a motorcycle at the Jalan Pasir Mas-Salor traffic light junction here on Monday afternoon.

Kelantan Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Ahmad Taufek Abdullah said Sudin Awang, 67, from Pasir Puteh, died on the spot in the 2.30pm incident.

A female passenger, who was seated in the rear passenger seat, fled from the vehicle following the incident.

ACP Ahmad said the killer had earlier smashed the rear, front and driver's side windows of the taxi when Sudin stopped for the red light.

"At that juncture, the motorcyclist demanded that the taxi driver alight from the vehicle.

"When Sudin did as ordered, the motorcyclist stabbed him with a sharp object," he told reporters at the scene of the crime.

Ahmad Taufek said the killer rode off in the direction of Salor and the female passenger also fled from the scene.

He appealed to witnesses of the attack to contact the police to facilitate investigations.

The victim's body was sent to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital here. - Bernama
