Farida gets death threat

PETALING JAYA: An Islamic State-minded person has threatened to draw Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin’s (pic) blood for her view against khalwat raids.

Noor Farida, who is the G25 Eminent Malay Group spokesperson, said someone drew her attention to the creepy message posted on social media last week, just as she was reeling in shock over a sexually motivated threat earlier.

“The message read darah orang sebegini adalah halal (blood of this kind of person is permissible).

“This is ISIL (Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant) mentality. This is the mentality of the ISIS terrorists,” Noor Farida said.

She said someone drew her attention to the threat from an anonymous source via Facebook messaging.

Noor Farida believed such threats surfaced because her statements were blown out of proportion by certain irresponsible media.

“I want to make a police report against all those who had quoted me out of context, drawing hysterical reaction from the community.

“I do not know whether to laugh or to cry over the hysterical reactions,” she said.

Noor Farida, who made a police report against a sexual assault threat posted on Facebook, was caught by surprise over the police investigation into her allegedly seditious statement.

“For the rape threat I lodged, I am still waiting for police action.

“But investigation is now focused on people like me who merely expressed opinion on laws when the country is under threat as reflected in the arrests of armed forces and Rela personnel allegedly involved with ISIL,” she said.

Malacca police chief Datuk Chuah Ghee Lye confirmed that the police had started investigations into a G25 forum held in conjunction with the Universiti Malaya Alumni Association gathering on Dec 5 and Dec 6.

Investigations were carried out under Section 4 (1) of the Sedition Act.

Chuah said their investigations were focused on the forum, and that they were calling Noor Farida to give her statement because she was one of the speakers.

He said the police would contact Noor Farida soon to set an appropriate date for her statement to be recorded.

“Other speakers may also be called to give their statements depending on the result of our investigations into the forum,” he added.
