Dr M open to Umno-PAS merger

PUTRAJAYA: A potential partnership between Umno and PAS partnership is not the immediate worry of Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, who is more concerned with the current party leadership.

The former prime minister was asked to comment on the "friendly exchanges" between Umno president and Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, Dr Mahathir instead chose to criticise Najib's leadership.

"We would like it if there is a merger between Umno and PAS, but the problem is with Umno's leadership," he said at a press conference here after launching Perkim's Multiracial Muslims Regional Seminar.

Najib shared the same stage with Abdul Hadi on Thursday at the Regional Conference for Al-Azhar graduates in Kuala Lumpur Thursday night.
