Wanita MCA wants action taken against man who threatened G25’s Noor Farida

PETALING JAYA: Wanita MCA has called for the authorities to charge a man over his threat to sexually assault G25 spokesman Datuk Noor Farida Ariffin.

In a statement on Wednesday, Wanita chief Datuk Heng Seai Kie (pic) slammed the man, Sharul Nizam Ab Rahim, for the threat to break into Noor Farida's house and sexually assault her.

He had posted the warning on his Facebook page last week in response to G25’s call to review the Syariah laws on khalwat (close proximity).

“Such threats must not be taken lightly. It is not just an insult to Noor Farida, but it is also demeaning to womenfolk everywhere,” said Heng.

She added that Shahrul Nizam’s threats insulted Islam, which is a religion that respects a woman’s dignity.

She said that while Malaysians, being in a democratic country, had the freedom to disagree with any statement, resorting to criminal threats was wrong.

“I strongly urge the police and relevant authorities to take action against Shahrul Nizam, and to make an example out of him.

“What sort of image are we portraying to the world if we were to allow Shahrul to escape without punishment?” said Heng.

She further expressed her belief that no one should be cowed into silence for speaking their minds and said that such “bullying tactics” must be stopped, as “crudity and abuse” should not be used to defend anyone’s culture or religion.

“I therefore advise all Malaysians to follow the path of moderation and common respect, and to not resort to activities which may destroy our harmonious nation,” she added.
