Take care of your feet

PETALING JAYA: If you’re one of those who thinks your body is aching because you’re getting old, think again.

Samuel Liew of Health Pursuits said many people tend to dismiss body aches such as pain in their ankles, knees, hips and back as signs of aging.

“But the source of such problems may stem from their feet. The pain could be due to the non-alignment of their feet.

“This puts pressure on their feet, ankles and knees, and in turn, strains other parts of their body such as the hips and the lower back,” he said.

Good alignment of feet, said Liew, translates to fewer aches and discomfort in the body.

And contrary to what many people might believe, feet problems are not exclusive to adults but affect children as well.

Liew will be highlighting the problems of children with flat feet in his talk on ‘Common Foot Problems and the Role of Orthotics’ at the FitForLife Fair Penang 2015 this Sunday.

Other speakers at the fair are Assoc Prof Dr Haresh Kumar Kantilal on blood sugar, Dr Lim Eng Huat on the new trends and technologies in cancer treatment and Khor Su Mee on managing cholesterol.

Also speaking are Dr Ooi Chong Chien on common urological problems, Monitar Tan on healthy ageing and Lee Hooi Meng on manipulating the love of food to fight cholesterol.

The talks will take place from 11am to 5pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Early birds to the fair can also expect more gifts, with Delfi Marketing contributing a Salonpas Pain Relief Patch for the goodie bags for the first 500 visitors each day.

Delfi Marketing product executive Chuah Siew Lin said the patches would provide quick relief for anyone with minor aches and pains of muscle and joints.

“The patch can last up to 12 hours and it is easy to apply,” she said, adding that they were suitable for those with arthritis, simple backaches, strains, bruises or sprains.

“Contributing to the Fit For Life fair gives us a good opportunity to provide a comfortable and healthier lifestyle for everyone,” said Chuah. Delfi Marketing are distributors of healthcare and consumer goods.

Organised by The Star with Great Eastern Life as the event partner and Nestle Omega Plus as the wellness sponsor, it will be held at the SPICE Arena, Bayan Lepas, from this Friday to Sunday and will be open from 10am to 7pm. Admission is free.
