Kelantan now has most dengue cases

PUTRAJAYA: Kelantan has overtaken Selangor as the state with the most number of weekly dengue cases, prompting the authorities to deploy more officers to carry out preventive efforts in the state immediately.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam said some 120 health officers from other states have been mobilised to Kelantan to assist in combating dengue there.

“The main problems are trash management and drainage systems in residential areas. Our teams will look into all efforts, including fogging, vector control, enforcement activities,” he told reporters here yesterday.

There were 1,334 dengue cases registered in Kelantan between Aug 10 to Aug 16, jumping from 1,160 cases in the week before it, according to statistics from the ministry. There has been 8,219 dengue cases with 12 deaths in Kelantan this year.

Selangor has the most number of dengue cases so far this year at 32,732 cases, registered 978 cases last week. 126 people died of dengue nationwide this year.
