KOTA KINABALU: A Sulu intruder threatened to slit the neck of a police commando when they crossed paths at Kampung Tanduo several hours before shooting broke out on March 1 last year, the High Court was told.
Police VAT69 commando Insp Rosmadi Rosli said that when he and comrades came about 10m to 15m in plain view of seven Sulu intruders, one of them gestured slitting the throat while brandishing a parang.
Some of the intruders brandished machetes and others wanted the commandos to leave the area around 7am on March 1.
Insp Rosmadi said this at the trial of 30 Sulu intruders before High Court judge Justice Stephen Chung at a hall in the Kapayan state prison here yesterday.
He added that the encounter with the armed men occurred after his team of 18 men landed on beaches of Tanduo during a close recce at their designated area.
Questioned by Attorney-General Tan Sri Gani Patail why they did not shoot the armed intruders when they crossed paths, Insp Rosmadi explained that it was because they were just carrying out a close recce and had been instructed not to open fire unless they were shot at first.
Hearing continues tomorrow.
