PETALING JAYA: Captain Hassan Ahmad had to hold back tears when recounting the moment he taxied a Singapore-bound Boeing 727-200 out of the then Subang International Airport on Oct 1, 1972.

It was the first flight under the flagship Malaysian Airlines System (now Malaysia Airlines) after the break-up of Malaysia-Singapore Airlines.
