Recipients under National Scholarship Programme increased to 50

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of National Scholarship Programme recipients has been increased to 50 this year from 30 due to the improvement of students' Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) 2011 results.

“This will give more opportunities to top students to further their studies at some of the world's most renowned universities,” Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said before presenting offer letters to this year's recipients.

Muhyiddin, who is Education Minister, said the selection for the programme was based on academic merit.

“Students will be sponsored from foundation level to undergraduate studies for the fields of their choice in local and foreign universities recognised by the Government,” he said.

Muhyiddin said the Government had allocated RM2.12bil through the Public Services Department this year to sponsor top performing students to pursue their first degrees in local and international institutions.
