Drug mule returns home after jail term in Cape Town

“SEVEN months in a foreign prison is enough.”

These were the words of 20-year-old Nur Dhiya Ain Rosman when she reached home on March 9 after serving a jail term in Cape Town for drug trafficking.

The second of four children from Brickfields served seven months in the South African jail for trafficking 1.2kg of syabu, a crime she denied having committed.

She claimed that she did not know anything about the drugs and was shocked to learn that her best friend, whom she had known since childhood, had cheated her, Harian Metro reported.

“I was given a free ticket to spend four days with her in Cape Town but my friend aborted the trip at the last minute, leaving me to travel alone.

“She convinced me that I’d be accompanied by a tourist guide.

“Before I left on Aug 14 last year, a woman claiming to be a representative of the company that sponsored my trip thrust a bag that purportedly contained souvenir gifts.

“At the airport, I was detained by an immigration officer,” she said when interviewed by the tabloid and sister paper Berita Harian on Monday.

She was freed from prison on March 9 and flew home the same day.

> Siti Norsaida Taruddin, an elder sister of pop princess Datuk Siti Nurhaliza, is adamant about getting a divorce from her husband, said Berita Harian.

She was reported as telling a lower Syariah Court in Kuala Lumpur that her husband, businessman Mohd Ghazali Yahya Zakri, 41, had refused to divorce her, but she is determined to dissolve their marriage on grounds of irreconcilable differences between them.

The couple married on Dec 16, 1996, in Kuala Lipis, Pahang, and have four children aged five, eight, 12 and 14 years.

Norsaida filed for divorce on Oct 6 last year.
