Landslide cuts off main trunk road in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: The main trunk road linking the west and east coasts of Sabah has been cut off completely by a major landslide at Kundasang, in the foothills of Mount Kinabalu.

No traffic could pass along the pines resort after the landslide Tuesday morning, leaving hundreds of commuters heading from the state capital to interior Ranau and the east coast towns of Sandakan, Lahad Datu and Tawau stranded.

Work is underway to clear the tonnes of rubble across the 100m stretch of the road between Kundasang and Ranau about 98kms from here. Commuters have been advised to use the Ranau-Tambunan bypass.
