SP SETIA Foundation has sponsored 500 sets of study desks and chairs worth RM42,000 for SJK(C) Kepong 1, Kepong, and 1,800 sets of study desks and chairs worth RM153,000 for SJK(C) Kheng Chee, Puchong.
SP Setia Foundation chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye said the foundation believed that a sound education was a great investment for the future of young minds.
“We hope the pupils will be motivated to excel in their studies to achieve their dreams,” he said.
SJK(C) Kepong 1 and 2 deputy chairman Cheah Lum Choy said about 15% of tables and chairs of most schools get damaged every year and would need to be replaced.
“This year, our funds are limited as we spent RM15mil to build SJK(C) Kepong 2.
“Even though we carried out fundraising activities, we were still short of funds.
“That was why we asked for the desks and chairs from SP Setia Foundation,” he said.
Cheah added that the maintenance of the buildings was borne by the board of directors and the public.
“The sponsorship is timely as it would be dangerous for our pupils to use old chairs and tables.
“The new tables and chairs will help create a safe and conducive environment for pupils to study,” he said.
Also present during the handover were S P Setia Foundation cheif executive officer Captain (R) Datuk Liew Siong Sing and SJK(C) Kepong 1 headmaster Cheng Yew Teck.
Meanwhile, in Puchong, Lee presented the furniture to SJK(C) Kheng Chee chairman Datuk Wong Hock Aun.
Liew was also present at the event.
Wong said the school was thankful for the contribution as it had opened its doors earlier in the year.
Lee said the foundation had contributed about 9,000 sets of desks and chairs worth RM750,000 to schools in the country.
