LEARNING a new life skill while enjoying a sumptuous meal comes from the ingenuity of The Red Olive at SSTwo Mall. The Red Olive restaurant plans to host monthly talks and workshops to inspire Malaysians to continue learning something new.
A recent workshop featured basic first aid.
Whether it’s a minor or serious injury, the restaurant feels that everyone should know basic first aid techniques because medical emergencies can happen anywhere.
“Basic first aid allows you to quickly determine a person’s physical condition and the correct course of treatment.
“You should always seek professional medical help where possible, but following correct first aid procedures can be the difference between life and death,” said Arif Soon, an instructor and volunteer at Malaysian Red Crescent Society.
The workshop covered how to properly perform a Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and what to do when someone has a heart attack.

“The burn injuries can actually be treated by simply running the affected area under cool running water. Please do not put ice as it can restrict blood flow to the burn site and further damage delicate tissues,” he said.
The important topics also covered in the workshop include first aid procedures on treating wounds, burns, bleeding, sports fractures, choking and chest pain.
“We want to develop a learning culture among Malaysians,” said Cordelia Lee, the organiser of Treazures Workshop Escapade.
“First aid training is an essential survival skill. It is important to act fast during an emergency situation.
“The only way to provide proper first aid is through learning the correct technique, then regular practice and guidance.”
