SOCIAL Development and Urbanisation Minister Datuk Seri William Mawan Ikom’s statement that Deepavali could be designated as a public holiday in Sarawak soon was the main talking point at an Indian gathering in Kuching over the weekend.
At a dinner to celebrate Deepavali and mark the near completion of an Indian community hall on Saturday, some were optimistic that a public holiday would be declared soon while others expressed doubts.
