THE Sultan of Kedah Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah launched the Mu’adzam Shah golden jubilee coins in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of his reign.

The Sultan performed the launch at the K-Gold Gallery in Jalan Pegawai in Alor Star.

Distinguished guests included Sultanah Tuanku Haminah Hamidun, the Raja Muda of Kedah, Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak, Datuk Seri Tunku Puteri Intan Safinaz, state executive councillors, state secretary Datuk Wira Syed Unan Mashri Syed Abdullah and International Gold Dinar Exchange (IGDX) Holdings Ltd chairman Dr Mohd Yunus Sheikh Mahmood.

“The gold and silver coins are meant to symbolise the Malay Sultanate of the past when these coins were in use.

“The Golden Jubilee celebrations will be a historical occasion that will be treasured and these coins will be ideal collector’s items for Kedahans.

“They will also be auctioned off to the public in true Islamic tradition and the proceeds given to the Sultanah Bahiyah Founda-tion for its welfare activities,” said Azizan.

He said that the state Deve-lopment Corporation, the Islamic Foundation (both GLCs) and IGDX Holdings Ltd formed a joint venture company known as K-Gold Gallery Bhd in 2006 to produce the coins.

He said, “Kedah will celebrate a milestone when Sultan Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah becomes the first ruler after independence to reign for more than 50 years come July 15.”

The coins can be purchased singly or in serialised packages of two, eight and 20 gold dinar and five and 10 silver dirham.

The first 200 minted coins with serial numbers will be issued on July 15.
