SIX artists will collaborate to complete a 2m by 1m (6ft by 3ft) canvas during a live painting for the curtain-raiser of ‘A.H.A.!: Arts, Heritage and Architecture’ Art Exhibition at Gurney Paragon Mall in Penang.

Organising chairman Datuk Lim Mook San said the feat tomorrow is to mark the exhibition’s opening ceremony and will feature renowned artists Datuk Chong Hon Fat, Khoo Cheang Jin, Koay Shao Peng, Koay Sheng Tat, Mei Chee Seong and Simon Tan.

It will be held at St Jo’s Chapel Hall at Level Two in the mall from 3pm onwards.

Lim, who is also International Real Estate Federation Malaysia Penang Branch (FIABCI Penang) committee member, said the art exhibition is organised by FIABCI Penang in collaboration with the George Town Festival (GTF 2017).

“The live art painting is a one-of-a-kind event as they will be required to finish whatever they’re painting in an hour.

“There will be six artists and only one canvas with St Jo’s being the topic.

“I am excited to see the end result as it is not often we get to see different artists working on the same canvas.

“The artwork will then be auctioned on the same day with the hope that it will fetch a five figure sum to be given to charity,” he told a press conference at the Hunza Tower in Kelawei Road recently.

Besides the auction, Lim said the exhibition will see the six artists showcasing six individual art pieces from 11am to 6pm daily until Aug 6 at the St. Jo’s.

“The free exhibition will feature artworks of different genre and styles revolving around a common theme of heritage streets and buildings of Penang.

“The exhibition is aimed at raising awareness about the beauty and splendour of the state’s heritage buildings besides promoting talented local artists,” he said.

Lim said the art pieces on display will also be for sale, with 20% of the proceeds to go toward charity.

The public is also invited to join in the Live Sketch @ Festive Square on Saturday and Aug 5, or participate in a drawing competition on Sunday open to children aged between seven and 12.
