Businesses make RM1.9mil from sale of plastic bags

Shoppers at Tesco Mutiara Damansara are seen filling their shopping purchases into an array of recyclable bags that they brought on their own.

BUSINESSES in Selangor have collected RM1,871,547.55 from the sale of plastic bags at 20 sen each since the state-wide plastic- and polystyrene-free campaign began on Jan 1.

According to the latest data (until May), 63.98% of the plastic bags were sold at supermarkets, followed by 36.02% at eateries.
