Solved: The mystery of the strange Bandar Kinrara 3 foam

The mysterious foam overflowed from the drain along Jalan BK 3/2, Bandar Kinrara Puchong and some floated onto the roadside.

The source of the mysterious thick foam which appeared in Bandar Kinrara 3 has been identified to be from a burnt down factory at the corner of Jalan TPK 2/3.

The factory in Bandar Kinrara that produced shampoo and air freshener burnt down on March 4 but its remains were not cleared up.

During a site visit with MCA Kinrara Puchong Service Centre chief assistant Lawrence Chiew, the media followed the foam trail on foot from Jalan BK 3/2 to the factory about 1km away.

Subang Jaya Municipal Council officers as well as representatives from Indah Water were also seen following the foam trail.

At the factory, bluish liquid was seen trickling down into the drain from a large pipe by the side of the building.

The floor of the factory was covered with charred remains of canisters, surrounded by blue liquid while the walls of the drain by the factory had splashes of pink and blue.

Chiew alleged that the recent heavy rain could have doubled the amount of foam and strong winds blew the overflowing foam to the roadside of the commercial area of Jalan BK 3/2.

On Wednesday, the thick foam overflowed onto the roadside where a large cloud of it stood taller than Chiew who stands at 175cm.

The accumulated foam was seen covering a car and small trees.

The foam did not emit any chemical like smell, instead it had an odd fruity scent.

However, upon closer contact, some residents said they felt headaches and itchiness.

Nasi lemak seller Mat Roni set up his stall around 6.30am and saw foam all around.

“It was in the drains for about four days now. Today is worst, maybe because of the rain.

“The foam covered a tree and it looked like snow on Christmas Day,” he said.

A chef at Cafe Shiok Kopitiam, Tom, said he knew it could not have been from detergent because the foam stuck to trees and had a different texture.

He said business was not affected and people had even captured photos of the foam.

MPSJ president Datuk Nor Hisham Ahmad Dahlan said although the factory management said it did not use hazardous chemicals, the council will refer the matter to the Environmental Department for further investigation and action.
