IT IS time for Penangites to feast again on fish head bee hoon near Chew Jetty after a 150kg giant grouper netted off Pulau Kendi was sold to Ka Bee Cafe for RM7,500.

Cafe owner Chew Kean Ghee bought the 1.8m-long fish and WhatsApp messages are flashing among food lovers to announce it.

Chew last bought such a big fish in 2014 – a 200kg catch.

Business was so good then that Chew donated RM3,000 to buy 4,500 copies of The Star for students in three nearby Chinese primary schools to help them improve their English.

With a fish this big, fish head bee hoon lovers will be aiming for its liver, maw and belly — sweetbread from the sea.

Fisherman Tan Kah Seng, 43, said he caught the fish while trawling near Pulau Kendi at 7pm on Tuesday.

He said it was the first time he scored such a big one at this spot.

He added that he had caught giant groupers in Penang waters before and they usually weighed between 80kg and 100kg.

Tan said the 200kg grouper that Chew had served up in 2014 was also caught by him.
