THIS year’s Maybank Championship at Saujana Golf and Country Club in Shah Alam, which began on Wednesday and ends on Sunday, is more than just about golf.

Maybank group chief strategy officer Michael Foong said the event this year would focus on delivering a memorable experience for spectators.

Themed “Golf Like Never Before”, the championship – which features a world-class line-up of players such as US Masters reigning champion Danny Willett and former Masters winner Charl Schwartzel – is also serving up a slew of tech-enhanced, digital-first experiences.

“We aim to give golf fans and visitors alike an experience that they will continue to rave about through every aspect, from golf to bespoke activities, coupled with initiatives to contribute back to the community,” said Foong.

“As befits a platform where the best of the world converge in a spectacle of talent, skill and discipline, we are thrilled to offer golfers and visitors digital innovations and technology experiences that will be the way of the future,” he added.

According to Foong, these included cashless payment options, digital banking services offered on-site, and the presence of many tech startups and financial technology (Fintech) partners.

Visitors can experience a slice of the future with a virtual reality lab installation, solar-powered mobile charging stations at the public village developed by Suncrox Solar, a context-based notifications platform developed by VAV Apps, and a mobile solution that will help keep track of your spending across all payment channels in one convenient mobile application by Credit Mavin.

Other startups include Evenesis, NEXX, Jom Fishing, Apver, Eat Cake Today, AppPay, Katsana, MyCash, Laundry On The Go and RecomN.com.

Digital innovations developed by Maybank are also being deployed, including Maybank Pay and SamsungPay. Maybank has set up Maybank Express Debit Card Replacement Kiosks (e-Kiosk), and you can also upload the refreshed M2u app and more when you drop in at Saujana.

Aside from enjoying the main event on the fairways, the public is also kept busy elsewhere with attractions such as yoga, boot camp session and culinary offerings by Michelin star Chef Anton Mosimann, who is serving his signature dish at the public village.

Exciting prizes are up for grabs when visitors take part in the Startup Hunt Contest in association with VAV Apps Sdn Bhd, VR Lab Bhd and Suncrox Solar from 10am to 4.30pm throughout the championship.

Entry to the Maybank Championship 2017 is free today, and RM68 per person for a weekend pass.

Maybank Credit Card members will receive two complimentary passes simply by presenting their card at the entrance.

Entrance is free for children aged 12 and below, and senior citizens aged 55 and above.
