Some of the animals that are being promoted in the Real Pokemon Catch campaign.
IT IS always a big challenge to rehome local-breed cats and dogs that have been rescued off the streets by animal welfare groups and good Samaritans.
Seeing a way to promote these unfortunate animals, pet adoption portal Petfinder.my is taking a ride on the current Pokemon Go craze to find them homes.
Aptly named the Real Pokemon Catch, animal lovers can visit Publika, Berjaya Times Square, Sunway Pyramid and 1 Utama Shopping Centre to find and “catch” a cat or dog of their choice for adoption.
The idea, which was conceptualised and created by advertising agency Naga DDB, has the cats and dogs replacing the original monster characters.
PetFinder.my founder Andy Koh said the initiative at the four participating malls is on until this Sunday.
“Those playing this game just need a QR reader to find out about the dogs and cats they are interested in adopting,” said Koh.
He added that about 10 to 15 standees of the dogs and cats, characterised in Pokemon designs, would be placed at strategic locations in each mall.
When a QR reader is used to read the code on a standee, the interested party will be directed to the Petfinder.my website where all the animal’s details and more pictures are displayed.
“Adoptions can also be done immediately as all the necessary contact details will be there,” he added.
He said the standees would also have various interesting taglines, such as “walk a mile for a real catch instead”.
“Our campaign fits in well in all the four malls as they are also running the Pokemon Go promotions there,” said Koh.
He thanked the management of the four malls for participating in the campaign.
“We hope this fun-filled initiative will set a precedent for more creative animal welfare collaborations in the future,” he said.
