The new and improved Summit USJ mall is set to delight shoppers in Subang Jaya with a fresh look and the addition of more retailers.

The mall’s logo is also sporting a new look with overlapping colourful panels to represent the vibrant experience offered by the mix of retail and dining options.

Having undergone extensive renovations for almost two years, the mall is set to complete its RM70.48mil upgrade in September and will be officially launched by December when its new retailers have settled in.

Major upgrading works included the glass exterior facade that lights up at night, the extension of the main facade to allow for additional retail space as well as the upgrading of the flooring, ceilings, pillars, balustrade and railings in the common areas.

The mall has also switched to LED lighting as part of its efforts to be more eco-friendly.

New escalators, travellators and a comprehensive, state-of-the-art CCTV system are among the other changes made to the iconic mall.

The Summit Subang USJ management corporation chairman Zuhairy Md Isa said there had been no major refurbishment of Summit USJ since its opening in 1999.

“The mall is dated and many facilities needed to be upgraded,” he said, adding that there was also more competition from several new malls in the vicinity.

Among the new retail tenants is Homepro – Thailand’s large and popular home improvement store that offers more than 35,000 products to cater to customers’ house-building and furnishing needs.

Malaysia’s largest indoor miniature exhibition area, MinNature, will also be among the latest offerings from Summit USJ, giving visitors beautifully handcrafted dioramas that feature local and international landmarks such as Dataran Merdeka, as well as games and hidden quests.

Shoppers looking to satisfy their entertainment needs can visit Encore Family Karaoke that has up-to-date song lists and premium BMB sound system from Japan.

For movie buffs, the newly refurbished Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) on the fourth floor will provide 20% more legroom in all seven cinema halls as well as a new entrance, foyer and toilets.

GSC’s hall has also been further upgraded with Dolby Atmos audio technology to provide an immersive 360-degree movie viewing experience.

Other retail tenants include Chai The Fashion Emporium that offers a host of international apparel brands within a lifestyle concept as well as myNews.com press and convenience store.

Zuhairy is confident the upgrade and new retail tenants would pull in the crowd.

“Other than our regular patrons, the mall would like to be a destination for Gen Y too, since there are 10 colleges nearby,” he added.
