TO better assist private-sector preschool teachers in teaching the Chinese language, the Perak Kindergarten Teachers Association is organising a one-day course to upgrade their professionalism.
The The Standards of Preschool Education in Language and Writing course is supported by the State Non-Islamic Affairs Department.
Organising Chairman Lo Chen Fan said pre-school teachers lack proper training in teaching Chinese, as many of the general teaching courses are conducted in Bahasa Malaysia.
“Most of the private-sector preschool Chinese language teachers are more proficient in Chinese, so it can be quite difficult for them to understand.
“In many cases, they have to pay extra to attend courses organised by associations to learn the right way to teach Chinese.
“So, we decided to provide our utmost support to these teachers in improving their teaching skills with this course,” she told a press conference at the state secretariat building in Ipoh on Monday.
Association President Looi Lee Ying said throughout the course, preschool teachers teaching the Chinese language will be taught on the proper pronunciation of Chinese phonetics.
“We want them to master basic Chinese so they can impart the knowledge properly to kids.
“It’s important that the first exposure of the Chinese language for preschool children is correct, because it will be difficult to erase any wrong concepts taught to them since young when they are older,” she said.
Looi said apart from preschool Chinese teachers, those who are interested are welcomed to participate in the course as well.
The course will be held at the Dewan Serbaguna of the state secretariat building from 8.30am to 4.30pm on Aug 7.
The fee for the course is RM30. Lunch will be provided and a certificate of participation will be given to participants. Those who are interested to register can contact 012-530 1169, 018-950 0082, or 016-529 5151.
