THE 28th “One drop of blood, one hope of life” blood donation campaign will be held on June 12 from 8.30am to 3.30pm at the Thean Hou Temple Hall, Kuala Lumpur.

The blood donation campaign aims to collect 1,000 packets of blood this year, said the campaign’s joint organising committee chairman Mary Lim.

Mary, who is also head of the Women Section of the Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Lim Clansmen Association, is confident that the event will achieve its goal, thanks to the cooperation of the organising committee members, in addition to the support and contributions by generous sponsors.

Mary hoped the blood donation campaign would help to enhance public awareness on the importance of building a caring society.

The national blood bank, she said, is constantly facing blood shortage problems, especially during Ramadan.

She said similar campaigns organised by them in the past were able to collect more than 800 packets of blood from donors each year and these helped to replenish the national blood bank with fresh blood.

She is confident they will be able to achieve their new target of 1,000 packets this year.

Mary thanked LBS Group Berhad managing director Tan Sri Lim Hock San for donating RM10,000 towards the campaign.

Hock San, who is also Federation of Lim Clansmen Associations of Malaysia national president, had agreed to open the blood donation campaign on June 12.

Hock San also thanked the federation’s honorary adviser Lim Chai Beng and the federation’s deputy president Datuk Lim Kiam Lam for donating RM5,000 each towards the campaign.

She estimated that more than 1,000 donors will take part in this year’s campaign.

She said the organising committee had decided to give away a box of essence of chicken with gingko each to the first 1,000 people in appreciation of their support.

“The Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Lim Clansmen Association is one of the most active affiliates of our federation and their continuous efforts in promoting charitable activities are highly commendable,” said Hock San after presenting a mock cheque of RM10,000 to Mary.

Kiam Lam, who is also Selangor and Kuala Lumpur Lim Clansmen Association chairman, commended the joint efforts of Mary and Women and Youth Sections head Lim Yen Tiong, respectively, after presenting a mock cheque of RM5,000 to Mary.
