Varsity’s conference aims to trace the path of languages

The School of Language Studies and Linguistics (SoLLs), UKM will be holding its 10th Biennial Conference – SoLLs.Intec 15 – at the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Bangi, from Sept 29 to 30.

Themed “Language Evolution and Revolution: The Past, Present and Future”, the conference aims to celebrate the evolution of languages and the revitalisation of Language Studies.

The two-day conference, which includes more than 100 innovative sessions will provide networking opportunities with hundreds of professionals, and address pressing issues affecting the society and the community.

Speakers and contributors of the conference will include Asia Pacific LSP and Professional Communication Association president Prof Dr Vijay Bhatia, Star Media Group (formerly known as Star Publications (M) Berhad) group managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai, Malaysian Digest chief executive officer Engku Emran Engku Zainal, Associate Prof Dr Pei-Lin Liu, National Chia-Yi University, Taiwan and the Faculty notable plenaries, Prof Dr Siti Hamin Stapa, Prof Dr Datuk Dr Saran Kaur Gill, and Associate Prof Dr Tan Kim Hua.

Sessions by distinguished Plenary Panels and Parallel Panels are also scheduled for the first day and second day of the conference.

The paper presentation and dialogue covers the vibrant areas in Language-related fields including Applied Linguistics, Linguistics, Literary & Cultural Studies, Corpus Linguistics, Theoretical Linguistics, Foreign Languages, Literacy, Stylistics, Semiotics, Translation, Language & Technology, Eye-Tracking, Language and Literature Studies, Gender Studies Language & Arbitration.

Deputy Education Minister Datuk Mary Yap will be officiating the conference on Sept 29 and faculty dean Prof Dr Hazita Azman will close the conference on the evening of the Sept 30.
