The Chanel Paris Dallas collection lives up to its name with a Western-inspired range.
Chanel’s Métiers d’Art 2013/2014 collection takes a romp in cowboy boots, fringes and various accoutrements of the like you’d see in a fantasised version of the Wild West.
Romance abounds in a dewey-eyed look at the history of the pioneers resulting in an imagined idea of the old Texas, before the Civil War, where Lagerfeld’s cowboys were “not typical cowboys, but are transposed and very sophisticated.”
Karl Lagerfeld adeptly juxtaposes the iconic Chanel hues of white, beige, red, navy and black with touches of blush pink, and prairie hues such as browns, rusts, greys and wheat-ones.
To counterbalance the variety of styles, soft, sensual fabrics such as silk, satin, tweed and chiffon as well as hardier fare like denim, leather and cashmere are used.
The light and sporty nature of his clothes is further enhanced by the playful detailing that consists of fringes, feathers, pleats, ruffles and the star motif.
Getting a little adventurous, the designer even added his take on iconic styles when he transformed the shoulders of the jacket to elegantly resemble a western saddle.
Details such as embroidered and fringed western saddle bags, mini cowboy hats and a series of leather calf boots – both mid-calf and knee-high and even an oil drum handbag add a witty and playtouch to the collection.
It’s the accessories that are always a favourite, and whether or not you’re into Western style, there are still plenty of items that can be incorporated into your wardrobe.
