Parents and children have to walk the talk together

Actions speak louder than words when it comes to advocating a healthy lifestyle.

Over the years, we have stressed on the importance of healthy breakfast to kick-start the day on a positive note. Milo is well etched in the memories of many Malaysians and widely available in homes, offices, schools and even vending machines in public areas.

Hence, Milo takes its role as an advocate of healthy living seriously and strives to educate our nation on healthy living, beginning with little steps. That’s how Positive Energy came to be.

We begin by understanding the importance of balanced nutritional needs. It is essential that we practise a balanced diet in the correct proportions to provide the body with optimum nutrition. To stay healthy, our body needs the right ratio of carbohydrates, fats, and protein — the three main components of nutrition in the food pyramid to release Positive Energy.

Not having balanced nutrition will have consequences. Children will often not have enough energy to power the brain, resulting in lower mental alertness, fatigue, and learning problems. It is important that mothers ensure the right nutritions are given to their children to boost their overall well-being.

In order for our body to provide the optimum condition to release Positive Energy, we need the ideal balance of 55-70% of carbohydrates, 10-15% of protein and 20-30% of fat. Based on the Health Ministry’s Recommended Nutrient Intake for Malaysia (RNI), our children also need the right ratio of nutrients to fuel their physical and mental development.

Driving Change

As Malaysians, we strive for economic progress but we also want to be a healthy nation. Milo contributes to this cause by emphasing the unlocking of Positive Energy with breakfast, balanced nutrients and an active lifestyle.

Milo’s commitment to this healthy agenda started with a series of engagements through nationwide roadshows, with interactive mini challenges aimed at raising the awareness of Positive Energy and its benefits through games. We conducted wellness talks for parents with tips on helping children reach their full potential.

The Milo Positive Energy Squad, a team of eight cyclists, was deployed to many locations to greet Malaysians from all walks of life.

To further strengthen Milo’s commitment in ensuring our children develop good dietary habits and physical involvement, Milo introduces Malaysia Breakfast Day. The nation’s leading chocolate-malt manufacturer believes that raising awareness is important but driving change is pivotal in shaping the nation’s attitude towards healthy living.

Back for the second year, Malaysia Breakfast Day strengthened its mission of rallying the nation to make the right nutritional choices for a balanced breakfast and to encourage an active lifestyle.

This year, the exuberant occasion saw more than 20,000 Malaysians congregate at Perbadanan Putrajaya, making it the nation’s largest breakfast gathering to date.

The event calls upon Malaysians to come together as a family to enjoy the most important meal of the day and participate in physical activities together. Apart from the run, participants enjoyed nutritious breakfast and took part in various energetic sporting activities.

Parents bonded with their children by having a fun time with high energy dances and performances, sport arcades, interactive digital games, photo sessions at the Milo Champion podium, and cheerleading sessions with professionals. There was also a free health screening programme for attendees to measure their blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI).

“We aim to drive the notion that the right balance of nutrients for a good breakfast is vital for a child’s growth and development, both physically and mentally,” said Nestlé Malaysia’s Dairy Business Unit Executive Director Ho Hau Chieh.

“Families with children are our main target, as we want Malaysians to understand the importance of good nutrition and how it positively affects the young into developing and reaching their full potential. Milo has always been focused on providing solution-based initiatives that aim to address the needs of the people,” he added.

Committed To Health

Milo’s commitment in raising awareness on the importance of physical activities and well-balanced nutrition does not end at Malaysia Breakfast Day.

Since the 1950s, the brand has taken the leadership position in motivating and supporting sports development in Malaysia through partnerships with the Ministry of Education such as the annual Majlis Sukan Sekolah Malaysia (MSSM) & Milo Awards honouring young athletes on their grassroots sporting success.

Milo also has a long and proud heritage of supporting community projects in Malaysia, with a strong theme of promoting healthy and active lifestyles.

As Malaysia strives for economic progress, a healthy population is essential to our nation’s growth. Better health is central to human happiness and well-being, it also makes an important contribution as a healthier nation is more productive, and save more. We need to think about our children’s well-being and their future. Their future starts from us parents.

Let us walk the talk together.
