MPC targets 2.6% productivity growth in manufacturing sector

Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) director general Datuk Mohd Razali Hussain

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Productivity Corp (MPC) has set a minimum productivity growth target of 2.6% for the manufacturing sector.

MPC director-general Datuk Mohd Razali Hussain said the sector played a major role in ensuring the nation’s productivity continue to improve.

“MPC will act as the coordinator and supervisor and would update the National Productivity Council on the sector’s performance and the steps to take to increase productivity,” he told reporters after presenting Quality Environment certificates (QE/5S) to several companies, including Auto Parts Manufacturers Co Sdn Bhd, KLPI Resources Sdn Bhd and Mara Japan Industrial Institute in conjunction with the Productivity Day on Tuesday.

On May 8, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak launched the Malaysia Productivity Blueprint, setting the target of achieving a national labour productivity growth of 3.7% per annum up to 2020 to boost the nation’s economy.

Among other things, the blueprint outlined five strategic thrusts, 10 national initiatives, 43 sectoral initiatives and 16 key activities.  On another note, Mohd Razali said the MPC had set the target for 400 companies to earn the QE/5S certification, annually.

He said after three years, the companies which earned the certificate would be urged to undertake more innovation to be eligible for the next stage, which is the LEAN Management certification. - Bernama
