UMILE to set up RM400m integrated floating solar farm in Kelantan

KOTA BARU: UMILE Ltd Liability Partnership Co plans to set up a RM400 million integrated floating solar farm in Tasik Danau Tok Uban, Pasir Mas, Kelantan.

President and chief executive officer Datuk Dr Nazily Mohd Noor said the 49-megawatt project was a first in the country.

He said the company would conduct a feasibility study on building a lake for the project.

"The study, which will take between eight and 12 months, involves coperation with Taiwanese company, Tien Energy Energy Group," he told reporters after the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MoA) between the company and Tien Ching in Kota Baru on Tuesday.

The MoA was signed by Nazily and Tien Ching chairman Chih Chung Yeh.

Nazily said the feasibility study would start in April involving the suitability and cost of the site, power and environment.

"The findings will be submitted to the state government for further action," he said.

He said that in addition to solar energy, the company also planned to implement a fish farming project in nearby areas.

"The integrated floating solar farm involves the use of only 80ha of the 640ha of the lake and construction is expected to be completed within 18 months," he said. - Bernama
