Microsoft launches Surface Pro 4 in Malaysia

Portable yet powerful: The Surface Pro 4 is more powerful than its predecessor but is now thinner and lighter.

Microsoft's latest tablet, the Surface Pro 4, is now available in Malaysia.

While it looks much the same as the Surface Pro 3, with a magnesium alloy body and built in multi-angle kickstand, the Surface Pro 4 comes with Windows 10 by default and is actually a little thinner and lighter than its predecessor (at 8.4mm thick and 786g versus the Surface Pro 3's 9.1mm and 800g).

The excellent multi-angle kickstand is still a feature on the Surface Pro 4

 

Screen size, however, is a little larger and higher resolution than the Surface Pro 3 – the Surface Pro 4 now sports a 12.3in (2,736 x 1m824-pixel) screen which Microsoft brands as a PixelSense Display.

As with its predecessor, the Surface Pro 4 will come in a variety of CPU, storage and RAM options.

The entry-level model comes with Intel's sixth-gen Core M3 processor while the higher-end models come with sixth-gen Core i5 or i7 processor.

Storage options now start with a 128GB SSD and goes all the way up to 512GB for the most expensive Intel Core i7 variant, while RAM starts at 4GB and goes up to 16GB.

In fact, there is a 1TB SSD option as well but according to Bruce Howe, general manager of the consumer channel group of Microsoft Malaysia, that version will not be available locally.

The new Surface Pen that's bundled with the Surface Pro 4 has more levels of pressure sensitivity (at 1,024 levels) and the AAAA-sized battery will last a whole year before it needs to be replaced.

Thanks to the added space afforded by the slightly larger screen, Microsoft has a new Surface Pro 4 Type Cover 2 which has better key spacing, but as before it's an optional extra, and will set you back RM529.

The Surface Pro 4 is available today and starts at RM3,999 while the highest priced model with a Core i7, 512GB storage goes for RM9,799.
