Hong Kong Sports School lift Premier Sevens rugby title

Hong Kong Sports School beat New Zealand

PETALING JAYA: Hong Kong Sports School (HKSS) emerged victorious as they beat New Zealand’s Scots College 31-12 in the final of the MCKK Premier Sevens 2015 rugby tournament in Kuala Kangsar.

The Kiwis had a fantastic run in the lead up to the final where they swept aside SM Sains Pokok Sena 24-7 in the quarter-finals and Sekolah Tuanku Abdul Rahman’s (STAR) 26-12 in the last four.

But HKSS were equally lethal, breaking local hearts as they romped to a 22-0 victory over 2013 champions MCKK All Blacks in the semi-finals.

In the final, Scots College drew first blood as they went 7-0 ahead through a try and conversion from Connor Garden-Bachop before HKSS levelled courtesy of Mark Coebergh (try) and Paul Altier (conversion).

Scots College bounced back through a try from Samoan Malo Manuo to go 12-7 up.

However, that lead quickly evaporated as HKSS turned on the power to lay claim to the N.J. Ryan Trophy.

HKSS’s Coebergh was named Best Player in the Final while Scots College’s Garden-Bachop was the Best Player of the Tournament.
