INCHEON:A Malaysian male wushu exponent has allegedly failed a doping test at the Incheon Asian Games.
Xinhua, China’s official news agency, said in a report yesterday that a Malaysian wushu exponent and a Cambodian female soft tennis player were the latest athletes to test positive for drugs.
There is, however, no official confirmation from the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA).
Malaysia’s chef de mission Datuk Danyal Balagopal said they were aware of the report alleging that a Malaysian wushu exponent had failed a dope test.
“At this moment, there is no official word from the OCA. I will meet the OCA officials tomorrow (today). It could be an error,” said Danyal.
Four male wushu exponents – Loh Jack Chang, Lee Yang, Ho Mun Hua and sanshou boxer Lee Wei Loong – represented Malaysia at these Games.
The OCA have so far announced only one doping case.
Tajikistan footballer Khurshed Beknazarov was tested positive for the banned substance methylhexaneamine after a match on Sept 14 – five days before the opening ceremony of the Games.
Wushu delivered only one medal – a gold – for Malaysia here.
Tai Cheau Xuen clinched the first gold for Malaysia after she came out tops in the women’s nanquan and nandao all-round event on Sept 20.
