WELLINGTON (Reuters) - All rounder Wayne Parnell has failed to recover from a shoulder injury in time to play for South Africa in the first one-day international against New Zealand at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Tuesday.

Parnell is the only major injury concern for the Proteas, who are likely to select Vernon Philander in his place as they open their preparations for next year's World Cup.
