Suhakam is misunderstood


IN light of some critical comments about the Human Rights Commission of Malaysia’s (Suhakam) role, it feels obliged to enlighten the public, as stakeholders in the promotion and protection of human rights, of its purpose and mandate.

It is unfortunate that inspite of having been in existence for 15 years, there is continued misunderstanding about the status and functions of the commission, including the erroneous perception that it is an NGO.
