Threats in coral reef trade


IT was with alarm that concerned Malaysians learned of the Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Ministry’s plan to increase the export of coral reefs, according to a Bernama News report on April 24.

The very suggestion that the Ministry wished to exploit and trade in our local coral reefs for profit is tantamount to a breach of duty by those tasked with the responsibility of protecting our marine resources.
