Army doctor has corruption cases pending

KUALA LUMPUR: An army medical officer implicated in the murder of DPP Anthony Kevin Morais has several corruption cases pending against him.

It is learnt that three deputy public prosecutors, including Kevin, had been involved in prosecuting the 52-year-old pathologist since as far back as 2013.

A source told The Star that apart from the ongoing cases, Kevin was preparing papers to prosecute the suspect for other offences when he went missing on Sept 4.

In September 2013, the doctor, who is a colonel, was charged in the Shah Alam Sessions Court with two counts of bribery involving RM700,000.

He was alleged to have recommended three companies to supply medicine and disposable medical tools to an army hospital.

In December that year, the officer was charged in another Sessions Court with engaging in unlawful trade while being a government servant. Kevin was the DPP.

Shortly after the doctor was charged, Kevin said outside the courtroom that the accused was not granted bail as he was already under a RM100,000 bail with one surety for the two earlier charges in September.

It is learnt that the trials involving the doctor are still ongoing.

Police have established that the motive for Kevin’s murder was revenge.
