New committee members elected at Dong Zong EGM

KAJANG: After a few postponements, Dong Zong successfully carried out an extraordinary general meeting on Sunday.

A new leadership was elected at the meeting attended by 46 representatives from 10 states.

Lau Lee Ming was named the Chinese education movement’s new president, while Tan Tai Kim was named deputy. Poh Chin Chuan was retained as secretary-general.

The closed-door meeting ended at 1pm.

Earlier, a commotion broke out when supporters of ousted president Yap Sin Tian attempted to put a stop to the EGM, which they claimed was illegal.

A group of protesters had gathered outside Dong Zong headquarters as early as 8am but were not able to enter.

Former deputy president Chow Siew Hon, who is in Yap’s faction, has insisted that the EGM is illegal.

Later he said the new committee is also illegal, as its members could not be elected on the day of the EGM.
