Tian Chua, Ambiga under travel ban

PETALING JAYA: Activist Datuk S. Ambiga and Batu MP Tian Chua are the latest figures to come under travel restrictions by the Immigration Department.

Ambiga, however, said she was informed by the Immigration Department that her ban only covered travel to east Malaysia.

"I just checked with Immigration, they say I am clear to travel overseas, looks like this relates to travel to east Malaysia," she told The Star Online.

Tian Chua confirmed the travel ban after checking with the Immigration database on Wednesday.

"With the latest travel ban, I am completely stuck in Peninsular Msia - already barred from Sabah & Sarawak, now can't go overseas or even Spore," he tweeted.

Others slapped with the latest wave of travel bans included activists Hishammuddin Rais, Adam Adli and Maria Chin Abdullah.

On Wednesday, travel bans were imposed on SRC International Sdn Bhd and 1MDB former chief investment officer Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil, The Edge Media Group owner Datuk Tong Kooi Ong, DAP MP Tony Pua and PKR MP Rafizi Ramli.

Hishammuddin said he knew of the ban through media reports and was clueless as to the reasons behind it.

"This is news to me. Although it doesn't bother me. But I am supposed to do a stand up comic in London in October to 'cari makan'," he said when contacted.

Maria said she was aware of the ban but was unsure of the reasons for it. "I am asking the Immigration to explain," she said.
