BUKIT MERTAJAM: Police arrested Bagan Umno division head Datuk Shaik Hussein Mydin outside the central Seberang Prai police station Wednesday, as he was about to hold a press conference over the Low Yat brawl.
When the former Penang Umno Youth chief arrived outside of the police station accompanied by state Umno secretary Datuk Musa Sheikh Fadzil, he was detained by two policemen at about 1.45pm.
It is believed that he had posted messages criticising Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar in a Telegram messaging group.
At about 4.05pm, Musa walked out of the police station and held a press conference.
He said the police had taken Shaik Hussein to Bukit Aman for investigation under the Sedition Act.
"We do have a closed-group in the Telegram mobile app to discuss on issues pertaining to the party and the Government," Musa said.
"In the group, we have ministers and division chiefs. We want the police to investigate, who are the ones who leaked the chat contents out of the group."
Musa added, "For me, we will follow the law and let police conduct the necessary investigations."
