PETALING JAYA: An artist draws inspiration from a picture taken during the recent Sabah earthquake to paint a tribute to the heroes of the tragedy.
Artist Razie Alfiedan, posted a picture he drew based on a photo of Rizuan Kauhinin, a mountain guide carrying an injured climber, with the message "Stay strong."
"I was so moved when I saw that photo on Facebook and I wanted to do my part to help," he said when contacted, Sunday.
He said that was reason he posted the painting on Facebook with the message.
"I am proud of our courageous local guides for aiding the search and rescue mission, risking their life for the safety of others.
"I want to tell the guides and their families to stay strong mentally, physically and that all our thoughts are with them through this difficult time," he said.
Razie said he drew the background of the picture, which was shared 377 times on Facebook, using photographs he had taken of Mount Kinabalu during his own climb in the past.
He plans to paint more paintings on the earthquake and sell them for charity.
"The cash would be donated to the Sabah Mountain Guides Association," he said.
