Man and son detained for spitting at, slapping cop

GEORGE TOWN: A 67-year-old man and his businessman son were detained for spitting at and slapping a policeman who was issuing them summonses.

Northeast district police chief, ACP Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said the suspects were travelling in a car to attend a business meeting when they were flagged down by a police team at around 9.50pm on Tuesday for failing to wear seatbelts

He said a policeman had asked for the identity card and driving licence of the 31-year-old businessman, only to find that the licence had expired last year.

"While writing the summonses for the two offences, the father alighted from the car and pleaded with the policeman not to issue the summons.

"However, the policeman ignored him and proceeded to issue the summonses to the businessman," ACP Mior Faridalatrash said, adding that the father allegedly acted aggressively and spat at the policeman.

Police then tried to detain the man at which point his son got out of the car and slapped the said policeman, ACP Mior said.

Both father and son were arrested and have been remanded three days to facilitate investigations. – Bernama
