GEORGE TOWN: A man was arrested Wednesday in connection with Tuesday's shooting of a woman and her son at Jalan Song Ban Keng traffic light intersection, Bukit Mertajam near here.
Penang Criminal Investigation Department head Datuk Mazlan Kesah said the suspect, a 38-year-old man, was arrested at his house in Bukit Mertajam about 12.15am following a tip off.
He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had five previous records, including for serious crime and drug related offences.
"Police also found a samurai sword in the house," he told reporters.
Mazlan said police were looking for three other suspects and advised those with information on the case to come forward to assist the police in the investigation.
In Tuesday's incident, which occurred about 12.40pm, the victims were in a car which had stopped at the traffic light intersection when they were shot at by four men on two motorcycles.
At least 10 shots were fired.
The woman, 43, was hit on the neck and arm, while her son, aged 21 and had just attended a court hearing of a drug case, was injured on the left side of his chest.
Both victims were sent to the Bukit Mertajam Hospital for treatment and they were reported to be in stable condition.
Preliminary investigations found that the son was previously involved in secret society activities and had previous records for drugs and violent crimes. - Bernama
