KUALA LUMPUR: Having to cope with an entirely different learning system, Aisyah Azizul Raheem, 15, fared relatively well in the Form 3 Assessment (PT3).
Aisyah, the eldest child of Azizul Raheem Awalludin and Shalwati Norshal, who were arrested by Swedish authorities for abusing their children, scored 5As despite failing in the Bahasa Melayu written test.
Aisyah's aunt, Shaleena Norshal, 43, who took care of her in Kelantan, said the achievement was quite a feat as Aisyah only studied for eleven months in the country amid family crisis.
"We are satisfied with her results, failing in Bahasa Melayu does not mean failing in PT3.
"To us her result is excellent as she was under tremendous emotional pressure studying in a new place with different learning, language and cultural system," said Shaleena, a teacher, when contacted by Bernama.
Aisyah, who studied at SMK Padang Kala, Melor, Kelantan scored "A" for English Written test, English Oral test, Mathematics, History and Geography.
She obtained B for Living Skills, C for Bahasa Melayu Oral test, E for Science and Islamic Studies and F for Bahasa Melayu Written Test.
Aisyah said her failure in the Bahasa Melayu Written test has not dampened her spirit and will not stop her from improving in the subject to achieve better results in future.
"To be honest, the examination was very difficult for me as everything was so different from what I studied in Sweden.
"Moreover I was only prepared for the Lower Secondary Assessment (PMR) but this was changed to PT3, and everything was new to me, new home, new friends and new examination format. It was stressful," she said.
Azizul Raheem, 38, and Shalwati, 46, were charged in a Swedish court, for abusing their four children during a three-year period from September 2010 to December 2013.
On March 28, 2014, the Solna District Court in Stockholm found Shalwati, a teacher who was on leave without pay, and Azizul Raheem, a director of Tourism Malaysia in Sweden, guilty on charges of gross violation of the integrity of their children, Aisyah, Ammar, 12, Adam, 11 and Arif, 7.
Azizul was sentenced to 10 months in prison and ordered to pay compensation of SEK36,400 (RM18,367) to their children. He was released on July 9 2014.
Shalwati was sentenced to 14 months in prison and ordered to pay compensation of SEK67,200 (RM33,909) to their children.
Shalwati was released from Hinseberg Prison, Frvi in Sweden on Sept 29 2014. - Bernama
